At ACLU-NM, Black History/Futures Month is a time to honor the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black communities while recognizing the ongoing fight for justice and equity. Inspired by the vision of Carter G. Woodson, Black History Month was established to celebrate the often-overlooked history of Black Americans. Today, we carry that legacy forward by also uplifting Black futures — reaffirming our commitment to dismantling systemic oppression, protecting civil rights, and amplifying Black voices in New Mexico and beyond.

As we reflect on the past, we also look ahead—to a future where justice is not just an ideal but a lived reality for all. Black futures are rooted in the progress of those who came before, and at ACLU-NM, we remain steadfast in our mission to advance equity, freedom, and dignity for generations to come.
