ACLU-NM intervenes in over 50 legal cases a year under the guidance of our panel of dedicated, volunteer civil rights attorneys. Our legal impact is broadened by the work of highly respected volunteer attorneys who donate their time, talent and resources to litigate ACLU-NM cases.

The ACLU-NM legal program undertakes lawsuits that advance and defend constitutional rights in New Mexico. Due to financial and human resource constraints, we only accept cases that have broad legal and policy implications, which means that we can only tackle between 2 – 5% of the hundreds of complaints we receive each year. For the cases we are able to accept, our legal services are provided free of charge.
If you have experienced a significant injustice or violation of your civil rights, please use our online form to submit your complaint for review by our legal team.  Before submitting your complaint, please carefully read the information provided on the kinds of cases we accept and do not accept.

ACLU-NM does not respond to phone calls requesting legal advice or inquiries concerning the status of previously filed complaints. You will be notified within four to six weeks if your case is accepted for litigation.
