It’s critical that legislators hear from New Mexicans like you who support bodily autonomy in our state as HB 7 Reproductive and Gender Affirming Health Care Freedom Act and SB 13 Reproductive and Gender Affirming Health Care Protection Act come up for crucial votes in the House and Senate.
In New Mexico, we recognize that decisions about reproductive health care, including abortion care, are personal and must remain between the person seeking care, their loved ones, and their medical provider.
We also know that gender-affirming medical care is life-saving care. It is safe, evidence-based, and medically necessary for trans and non-binary New Mexicans to be able to live the healthy and safe lives we all deserve.
Here’s how you can support reproductive and gender-affirming health care in New Mexico today.
1. Find your representatives in the House and Senate.
Go to the Find My Legislator page and use your address to search for your legislator in the House of Representatives and Senate.
2. Copy their name and email address.
Start a new email with your personal email provider directed at your legislators. You can email your House and Senate legislators together or individually.
3. Tell them you support reproductive and gender-affirming health care in New Mexico.
Some key things to include are the names of the bills you’re supporting and if you’re a constituent of those legislators.
Here’s a sample email text you can customize as needed:
Subject: Pass HB 7 and SB 13
My name is [NAME], and I live in [YOUR TOWN, CITY, OR COUNTY] in your district.
I’m asking you to please support access to gender-affirming and reproductive health care by passing HB 7 the Reproductive and Gender Affirming Health Care Freedom Act and SB 13 the Reproductive and Gender Affirming Health Care Protection Act.
In New Mexico, we know that every person deserves the dignity and respect to decide what is best for themselves and their families. As New Mexicans, we deserve access to the full spectrum of health care we need to be healthy, build families, and thrive.
Every New Mexican should have access to gender-affirming care or the reproductive health care, including abortion care, that they need, regardless of where they live. Patients and their providers should have the freedom to make these important health care decisions for themselves without fear of harassment, criminalization or discrimination
It’s also vital that we protect patients and providers in New Mexico from the unnecessary disclosure of personal information while they seek health care, which could expose them to harassment and abuse. New Mexico should not be complicit in other states’ attempts to ban and criminalize abortion and gender-affirming care.
Please pass HB 7 and SB 13.
Sincerely,
