The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico sent a letter to the New Mexico legislature to ensure that redistricting plans produced during the reapportionment of state election boundaries both comply with state and federal laws that prohibit practices and procedures that discriminate on the basis of race, color or membership in a language minority group; and adhere to both the voting and self- determination rights of New Mexico’s Native American voters.

Join the ACLU of New Mexico and Southwest Women’s Law Center (SWLC) on December 9th, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. in Albuquerque for a Supreme Court Debrief Happy Hour.

On December 1st, 2021, the Supreme Court heard the most consequential abortion rights case in generations. The case, brought by the Center for Reproductive Rights on behalf of the last abortion provider in Mississippi, could have national implications if the Court sides with the state by allowing it to enforce the abortion ban. Arguments come three months after the Supreme Court allowed Texas politicians to ban most abortions and politicians in other states prepare Texas-style copycat bills.

During this event, staff members from the ACLUNM and the SWLC will team up to host a Supreme Court Debrief where we will discuss the cases that have led to the continued litigation on abortion care. We'll also discuss the Supreme Court case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and answer any questions that you may have about the future of abortion rights.

The Southwest Women’s Law Center works on issues that impact women and girls around reproductive rights, economic security, and gender discrimination. We fight for policies that lift women and their families out of poverty, including pay equity, paid family and medical leave, and pregnant worker accommodation.

The ACLU of New Mexico requires that all supporters who attend an in-person event must be vaccinated. We thank you for keeping our staff and community safe. If you are not vaccinated but would like to learn more, please email [email protected].
